In this two-part workshop, Technology Resident Brian Oakes will demonstrate analog electronics and the printed circuit board (PCB) process through collaborative sculpture building.

The first session will focus on soldering and simple components to create light-reactive drone synthesisers. The second session will focus on more advanced components and analog logic to build a binary counter.

By the end of this class, participants will have gained experience with soldering PCBs and insight into technocraft, and will have created two collaborative circuit board sculptures that will be put on display at a future Second Sundays event.

Date: This in-person workshop will meet twice on Saturday, November 13 and Sunday, November 21 from 1-4pm.

Brian Oakes is an interdisciplinary sculptor based in New York. His spatial investigations are expressed through means of technocraft such as open source agendas, DIY materiality, satellites, nuclear culture, and global-political transparencies in outer space.

He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Sculpture with a concentration in Computation, Technology and Culture from the Rhode Island School of Design (2018). His artwork has been shown in exhibitions in the U.S., Japan, China and Germany including “Bohemian Centipede” at Scooters for Peace in Shibuya, Tokyo, and his most recent solo exhibition “Pieces”, at Wallplay, New York, NY. In addition he has shown at Space 369, MN, and FriEnds Gallery, RI.
